Overview:
Common Cents is seeking dynamic college grad students and/or very experienced undergrad students to support our fundraising and marketing efforts.

Background Information:
Common Cents is a New York City-based not-for-profit educational organization, which specializes in creating and managing service-learning programs for young people. Our most popular and best known program is the Penny Harvest, the largest child philanthropy program in the United States.

Position Description:
As a member of the Development and External Relations team, intern(s) will work closely on the fundraising, external relations, and communications initiatives of Common Cents for a minimum of twenty hours per week.

Interns will work on unique projects, including:
• Assist in the writing and mailing of thank you notes and fundraising appeals.
• Aiding in the research and creation of proposals for funding
• Providing administrative help including: maintaining files, database entry, and coordination of mailings and special events
• Research funding sources including foundations, corporations and individuals and assist in the maintenance of established donor relationships.
• Aiding the production of program materials, as well as promotional products for the organization
• Communicating with the NYC school system, local news media and print outlets
• Help with media and public relations efforts.
• Assist in developing the organization’s Internet communications strategy and developing a marketing plan to expand the organization’s online presence
• Assist with branding and identity initiatives for the not-for-profit
• Aid in the creation of the Common Cents Alumni Network.
• Other task as needed by the department

Qualifications:
We are seeking highly motivated, capable and reliable interns, preferably with an interest in pursuing a career in development and/or marketing, and the non-profit sector. Interns should possess:
• A high level of computer proficiency
• Experience with a relational donor database, preferably Donor Perfect
• Strong written communication skills
• Strong research skills. Previous experience in grant research a plus.
• Superior time and task management
• The ability to work independently on projects while meeting deadlines
• A strategic and creative approach to solving problems
• A sense of humor and willingness to work as a team
Graduate and undergraduate students who are studying public affairs, non-profit management, marketing, communications, or public administration are encouraged to apply.

Commitment:
Approximately 20 hours a week. Special consideration will be given to candidates who can commit to interning over the semester and into the summer but a semester internship (January-May) is also possible.

Compensation:
Interns will receive a stipend based on the number of days available and the length of internship.
