LOCAL STUDENTS MAKING PENNIES COUNT

December 14, 2008

DENVER - Students from 31 schools around Colorado are hoping to collect more than 2 million pennies for charity.

We caught up with some of them at the annual penny harvest count-a-thon Thursday at Denver's UMB Bank.

They've been collecting pennies all year long in hopes of breaking last year's 2 million mark. That would make more than $20,000 for local charities.

Then, each school will decide which nonprofits their efforts will benefit.

With only half of the tally in so far, they've already collected 1 million pennies. It looks like they're well on their way to breaking last year's record.
