Joe Follman
Florida Learn & Serve Director/Florida Alliance for Student Service Co-Director

Joe serves as the Director of Florida Learn & Serve and as Co-Director of the Florida Alliance for Student Service (FASS) based at Florida State University. Florida Learn & Serve supports K-12 youth involvement in service learning, and each year 150 schools and 25,000 students participate. The Alliance includes Florida Learn & Serve, Florida Campus Compact, the FASS VISTA Initiative and the State Farm Home Safety & Service Learning Initiative; all FASS programs support service learning opportunities for K-12 and Higher Education students.

Joe has authored three books, "Learning by Serving," "Comprehensive School Improvement," and "Reducing School Violence," all have been placed in every public school in Florida. He also wrote "A Guide to Establishing Youth Service-Learning Councils" and currently teaches service learning at FSU. Prior to his career at FSU, Joe held such positions as the SERVE director of publications, multiple research positions and an intelligence specialist at the Defense Intelligence Agency. Joe received a bachelors in English from Emory University and a masters in English from the University of Virginia.

Laryn Flikkema
FASS VISTA Director/Florida Penny Harvest Program Coordinator

Laryn is currently in his fourth year as a staff member with Florida State University’s Center for Leadership and Civic Education. He serves as Director of the FASS AmeriCorps*VISTA Initiative and as the Program Coordinator for the Florida Penny Harvest. He oversees education and structured service-learning opportunities for students that seek sustainable solutions to pressing social problems. Prior to his career at FSU, Laryn served for three years as the AmeriCorps*VISTA Coordinator for the 4-H Youth Development Program at Michigan State University. Laryn received his bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science from Michigan State University and a graduate certificate in Public Administration from Florida State University.

Tara Glynn
FASS AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader

Tara serves as the Leader of the Florida Alliance for Student Service (FASS) AmeriCorps*VISTA Initiative, a program of Florida State University's Center for Leadership & Civic Education.  The FASS AmeriCorps*VISTA Initiative places AmeriCorps members at K-12 schools, colleges, universities, and community-based organizations across the state of Florida.  Tara also helps coordinate the Florida Penny Harvest through providing training and school support statewide.  Last year, Tara served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA with Florida Campus Compact.  Prior to joining the staff at FSU, Tara lived in Albany, NY working with several non-profit organizations.  Tara graduated from the State University of NY at Albany in 2007 with B.A. in Sociology.
