2008 GLOBAL ISSUE

Climate Change
“Youth and children, as the next generation, have the right to a clean future-they do not wish to inherit a toxic, radioactive, dirty and carbon-driven world”
-Bernise Ang and Juan Hoffmaiste, Youth Activists

WHY CLIMATE CHANGE?

The buzz about climate change is spreading across corporate, civic, private and non-profit sectors. Therefore it is only right that this issue reaches the future generation of Penny Harvest students. It has come to the world’s attention that climate change is happening and it is directly linked to human activity. The potential threat it has to communities everywhere has leaders across globe realizing that now it the time to take action and begin to sustain our world for future generations.
As the 2008 Global Issue of focus, Penny Harvest students will have the opportunity to explore and examine how communities affect climate change and how climate change affects communities. And through awareness and education they will receive the tools and resources necessary to reduce the impact of climate change in their own communities.

what can we do?
It’s simple: Get smart. Make Grants. Take Action.

Get Smart
A short series of educational lessons will help students understand how their communities affect climate change and how climate change affects their communities.
  • Lesson 1: Awareness - Students explore the basics of global warming and climate change that are related to human activity
  • Lesson 2: Consequences - Students explore how uninterrupted climate change can hurt their community
  • Lesson 3: Prevention - Students will be inspired into action learning about other school communities taking action against climate change
Make Grants and Take Action

Once students better understand the issue, they can make grants and take action against climate change in partnership with local organizations.

Our global issue partner organizations are excited about working with Penny Harvest students to sustain our communities’ future generations. We worked hard to find local organizations committed to fighting climate change and educating young people so that they can make a difference.
