SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE

Welcome!
Congratulations winners and finalists of the Penny Harvest Schools of Excellence 07/08 Award!

The quality, creativity and volume of the applications for the second annual Schools of Excellence Award far exceeded our expectations. We received over 40 applications of all shapes and sizes -- from poster boards created by students to videos to slideshow presentations -- from a diverse group of Penny Harvest schools.

The selection committee – including members of the Penny Harvest NYC Advisory Board, the Common Cents Educator Network and Common Cents senior staff –scored the applications on the basis of the demonstrated quality of their program, the depth of their described program innovations and the overall detail and presentation of their application.

WHO ARE THE PENNY HARVEST SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE 07/08?
Ultimately, 26 schools earned the Penny Harvest Schools of Excellence Award 07/08 and a select group of 14 finalists were recognized as runners-up and honorable mentions. Download the Judging Rubric and Scorecard used to select the winners and finalists.

What is a Penny Harvest School of Excellence?
Schools of Excellence exemplify the very best of the Penny Harvest, ranging from creating a student leadership team that engages the school community and builds connections with the greater community, to creating opportunities for student leaders and other students to develop their skills and community-mindedness.

Schools of Excellence submit applications that are reviewed by the Common Cents New York City Advisory Board. A Penny Harvest School of Excellence is a year-long honor of ongoing recognition opportunities.
