Penny Harvest Seattle
PHILANTHROPY ROUNDTABLES UNITE! Are You Ready for the Philanthropy Roundtable? The Philanthropy Roundtable phase of the Penny Harvest generally takes place between February and April when students research community issues and connect with organizations to make grants. During April, May and June, students expand their philanthropy by participating in Neighborhood Service Projects within the community. Please use the calendars on pages 4-6 of the Supplemental Guide to help you plan your meetings. Coaches who need assistance with scheduling are encouraged to email Maryellen Ferro at maryellenf@solid-ground.org. Please remember that Yearlong Reports will be due on April 10, 2013. Roundtable Engagement- Tips from the Field It doesn’t matter if you are a first year coach or a veteran, facilitating the roundtable can be challenging. The logistics (little time or space for meetings, difficulty getting principal support) are difficult enough to manage, but when you add in Student Leaders who are losing interest (or never had it!) disaster can strike. Check out these 15 strategies that can be used to increase roundtable engagement and keep students excited about meetings for the entirety of the 10-week curriculum. The best part? Each suggestion has been tested and approved by Penny Harvest Coaches themselves! Missed the Philanthropy Roundtable Training? In January, coaches attended Philanthropy Roundtable Professional Development sessions in Seattle. These trainings are designed to prepare coaches to successfully run the program in their school. If you missed the training, please contact Maryellen Ferro at maryellenf@solid-ground.org as soon as possible to ensure your school is still able to participate in the roundtable. All coaches must be trained by the Harvest Office to facilitate the roundtable before February 10th. The Final Count. Thanks, once again, to the generously donated counting services of the Bank of America, the final results for the fall 2012 Penny Harvest are in! Despite the tough economic times, students at 36 schools in the Puget Sound area united to collect $42,719.88. Congratulations on another fantastic Gather Pennies phase |
