welcome to the roundtable

Global Relief Fund: Haiti Relief & Recovery

Beginning March 1st, Philanthropy Roundtables who express concern for the devestation in Haiti can pledge a portion of their money to support the relief and recovery efforts.

The Global Relief Fund is a nation-wide fund, amassed by schools across the country and each participating roundtable will have a say in how the money is distributed. Penny Harvest will be partnering with 3-5 organizations that roundtable leaders in Colorado, New York, Ohio and Seattle will have the opportunity to vote for. Our goal is that these organizations will represent a range of giving opportunities that will have a meaningful collective impact in Haiti.

We recommend that roundtables pledge no more than 10% of their funds as this allows them to make a meaningful contribution and does not ignore all of the local needs in our communities. Pledges must be made on or prior to Monday, April 12th by clicking here.

Please read over the FAQ sheet for more information about the logistics, timeline, and procedures necessary for your roundtable to take part in this exciting nation-wide event!

Since we cannot process and send out donations until after the April 12th Grant Decision Deadline, you are encouraged to take action NOW and lead a school-wide fundraiser to make immediate grants to relief efforts.

are you ready for the roundtable?

The Philanthropy Roundtable phase of the Penny Harvest generally takes place between February and April when students research community issues and connect with organizations to make grants. During April, May and June, students espand their philanthropy by participating in Neighborhood Service Projects within the community. Please use the calendar on pages 4-6 of the Supplemental Guide to help you plan your meetings. Coaches who need assistance are encouraged to call or email their school support person.

Please remember that Yearlong Reports will be due on April 12, 2010.

Missed the Philanthropy roundtable Training?

In January, coaches attended Philanthropy Roundtable Professional Development sessions in Seattle. These trainings are designed to prepare coaches to successfully run the program in their school. If you missed the training, please contact Maryellen Ferro at maryellenf@solid-ground.org as soon as possible to ensure your school is still able to participate in the roundtable. All coaches must be trained by PH Staff to facilitate the roundtable before February 12th.

The Final Count...

Thanks, once again, to the generously donated counting services of the Bank of America, the final results for the spring 2009 Penny Harvest are in! Despite the tough economic times, students at 65 schools in the Puget Sound area united to collect over 980 sacks of pennies, weighing more than 14 tons! Congratulations to everyone whose coins made up this year's staggering total of $78,836.45...the largest harvest in the history of our program.
