For a school that’s had a long experience with the Penny Harvest and has been doing the program successfully for many years, a new take or twist in the process makes a welcome change. In PS 200’s experience, Penny Harvest Coach Michelle Harrison realized the need to “mix things up” to give the 08/09 Penny Harvest a fresh start. Coach Harrison writes, “Each year the students change and I have to figure out what will motivate them to create a successful Penny Harvest.” Her solution: she used a lot of technology!

From researching on the computer to Powerpoint presentations, Coach Harrison made sure her technologically curious students were able to make use of all available programs during their Penny Harvest process. PS 200’s students even used Skype, an online program that allows users to make free calls online, to talk to a Penny Harvest class in Atlanta to compare schools and each other’s Penny Harvest. Student Leader Alessia writes, “The Skype was very enjoying. It was cool to see kids our age from another place and learn about what they do. Asking questions was really fun!”
